The horticultural society changes its name

Established in the 1950s, the Benoni Horticultural Society is being reborn and the current committee hopes to inspire young gardening enthusiasts by modernizing the club.

Meeting for only the second time since the start of Covid-19, a member of the club, now known as Benoni Gardening Club (BGC), Jay Kunvar said longtime members felt it necessary to relaunch and rename the club to energize members, thus ensuring the continuity of its activities.

Boasting 30 active members, BGC is ready to tackle new and timely issues such as growing sustainable food gardens as well as gardening for micro living spaces.

Gathered at Lavender Pots Nursery in Rynfield, the club welcomed Jandré le Roux as well as Shenaaz Ballim from Home Growers to learn more about the healing powers of mushrooms as well as the benefits of mushrooms for your garden.

The BGC meets on the third Saturday of the month.
