Goals and objectives

The Prospects Trust at Snakehall Farm is a charitable social enterprise and exists to enable adults with additional needs (our colleagues) to learn new life skills and independence through farming, gardening, retail and other related activities. The Trust runs an 18-acre organic farm at Snakehall Farm, a gardening team that provides gardening services in the local community and Unwrapped a zero waste store that sells differently in Ely. The Trust reinvests all of its profits back into the charity for the benefit of our associates.

This role will help our Farm Manager and Gardening Team Support Workers deliver meaningful work experience sessions in the local community. The gardening team undertakes all manner of gardening services, from routine garden maintenance to redesign and landscaping projects. The post holder will also work on collaborative and on-site projects at Snakehall Farm. The successful candidate will be confident in supporting others while working independently within the community.

Summary of main responsibilities

  • Achieve high-level off-site gardening team contracts with colleagues
  • Follow the gardening team’s daily schedule keeping accurate records
  • Provide engaging and safe work sessions for colleagues
  • Work alongside your colleagues outdoors in all weathers
  • Ensure health and safety standards are met at all times
  • Work in accordance with The Trusts values ​​and ethics at all times
  • Maintain the image and reputation of The Prospects Trust at all times

Support Worker Responsibilities

  • Support, encourage and enable the independence and skills of Collaborators
  • Provide support, supervision and training in a clear, informative and engaging manner
  • Recognize, understand and be able to deal with all kinds of difficult behaviors
  • If you work 1:1, make sure your colleague socializes and fits in with their peers
  • Act as a key worker for appointed colleagues and work in partnership with other professionals, caregivers and family members, ensuring care plans are person-centred, up-to-date and completed in a timely manner
  • Help colleagues record their learning progress by completing individual learning plans daily
  • Adhere at all times to the Trusts Equal Opportunity Policy, Safeguard Policy, Privacy Policy and Health and Safety Policy
  • Provide occasional assistance with personal care as needed
  • Be willing to undertake and update mandatory training as needed

Responsibilities of the gardening team

  • Assist in the planning of daily work scheduling to provide a meaningful work experience while balancing client needs
  • Perform horticultural work to the high standards expected of paying clients and The Prospects Trust, in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all tools, equipment, machinery and vehicles are fit for purpose, safe to use and stored securely
  • Ensure gardens are clean and tidy

Farm Team Responsibilities

  • Provide a meaningful work experience by ensuring that the needs of colleagues are met
  • Perform horticultural work to the highest expected standard
  • Ensure that workspaces are always clean, tidy and safe at the start and end of sessions
  • Ensure correct use of PPE
  • Keep accurate records and monitor activities as needed

General responsibilities

  • Work flexibly and closely with all managers to keep all ongoing projects in The Trust running smoothly
  • Maintain The Trust’s collaborative ethos and involve colleagues in future planning and decision-making
  • Provide support and encouragement to staff and volunteers, ensuring a friendly working atmosphere
  • Take on other responsibilities from time to time based on the changing needs of the Trust

Program:

Considerations related to COVID-19:
All staff receive personal PPE kits. The site and vehicles have been Covid secured by installing additional hand washing/sanitizing stations, tool cleaning stations and zoned areas. Face masks are mandatory for all staff.
