LAYTONSVILLE, Maryland. – Ruppert Landscape recently announced several staff relocations to the Maryland area of the company’s landscape management division.
John Harich has been promoted to Director of Business Development, a newly created position for the division. Harich, who is currently the branch manager of the Laytonsville Landscape Management branch, will be stepping down within the next month. He is also a past recipient of the Lawn and Landscaping Employee of the Year.
Harich began his career at Ruppert in 2003 as a Field Manager at the Laytonsville branch. In 2005 he was promoted to Director of Business Development and was responsible for multiple multi-million dollar sales seasons and propelled the initial growth of the Maryland region from 2005 to 2007. In 2008 he was promoted to Branch Manager in the newly created Frederick branch, with a satellite operation in Baltimore. In 2010, the Baltimore branch officially opened and Harich led this team for two years. Between 2012 and 2019, he managed two other branches which required additional attention and support and was responsible for the significant increase in profits in each of them.
In his new role, Harich will focus on all aspects of selling including sales training, estimating, customer relationship management, and more.
“The number of times John has been asked to move from branch to branch is obvious that he truly is an asset and a team player,” said Doug Halsey, Regional Vice President. “We are pleased to be able to present him with a new challenge and the opportunity to use his skills to help us grow our business. ”
Meanwhile, David Roles, current branch manager of the company’s Frederick Landscape Management branch, will be transferred to the Laytonsville branch to fill Harich’s position.
Roles holds a degree in Landscape Management from the Institute of Applied Agriculture at the University of Maryland and is a Certified Landscape Industry Technician and Certified Pesticide Applicator in Maryland. As branch manager of Frederick de Ruppert’s landscape management branch since 2017, he was instrumental in the acquisition of Classic Landscaping in 2018.
“Early in his career Dave spent time as an account manager for another landscaping company in Montgomery County and is very familiar with the Laytonsville market; he has a strong connection to the customers in that territory, ”said Halsey. “We look forward to him returning to his old playing fields and leading the veteran Laytonsville team. “
Melissa Dunk, currently Associate Branch Manager at the Frederick branch, will be promoted to Branch Manager to fill the Roles position.
Dunk holds a Diploma in Landscaping from SUNY Delhi and is a Licensed Pesticide Applicator in Maryland, Certified Professional Horticulturist, and Licensed Landscape Technician. She was promoted to Associate Branch Manager in early 2019 and has been an asset to help lead the team.
As a Branch Manager, she will be responsible for the general well-being of the branch, including team safety and development, strategic planning and budgeting, training and day-to-day operations.
“Melissa has shown a knack for customer service, having been responsible for supporting some of our larger clients in this industry, and has a keen eye for detail,” said Halsey. “She was a clear choice to lead the Frederick team and we are confident that she will continue to lead them in the right direction.”
