EYP launches sustainable landscape design practice

ALBANY, NY – (COMMERCIAL THREAD) –PEJ, a leading architectural and engineering company creating memorable designs that improve the lives of people and communities, announces the launch of its sustainable landscape design practice that creates healthier and more productive environments from zero. Guided by programs such as the Green Building Council and Sustainable SITES initiatives®, EYP’s sustainable landscape approach extends its long history of developing sustainable projects. Jessica A. Petro, PLA, ASLA, joined EYP as Senior Designer and Landscape Architect to lead the company’s focus on creating sustainable and performing landscapes.

“We are the advocates of your site,” Ms. Petro said. “Our team thinks about how landscapes work and how they interact with their inhabitants and the surrounding community. From planning and programming to comprehensive design and documentation services, we work with our clients to pursue climate-positive designs that can sequester carbon, purify air and water, increase energy efficiency and restore habitats. ”

While formalizing its sustainable landscape design practice, EYP has spent years working with local consultants to oversee landscape narration for several projects, including Federal Birch Bayh Building and American Courthouse in Indianapolis, Indiana; American embassy in Oslo, Norway; Fulton State Hospital in Fulton, Missouri; and, Quad at the University of Texas in Houston. The firm will continue to work with local experts and consultants to guide thought leadership and design implementation for the benefit of clients.

EYP has also worked on over a dozen projects across Texas Medical Center, including the recent Texas A&M University Intercollegiate School of Engineering Medicine. According to D. Kirk Hamilton, Ph.D., Beale Professor of Health Facility Design, Texas A&M University, “When I was in school, we had to draw to the edge of the vellum sheet, so the plan was part of a site plan that included the landscape, landscaping, drainage, parking and walkways. In the business world, architects have to confront the way their buildings interact with the land and the natural environment. They must collaborate with landscape professionals in their company or consultants from their company. We constantly remind our students of the close collaboration required in the field of design and the importance of the inseparable relationship between architecture and landscape. ”

“Expanding our capabilities to include landscape and natural environment is part of EYP’s long-term growth strategy, as it naturally fits with our culture and our commitment to sustainability. We can now work with our customers to achieve their carbon neutral designs, inside and out, ”said Kef Mason, Acting Managing Director, EYP Inc.“ It also provides greater depth and enrichment. to our people in areas important to them: resilience and climate. Jessica’s knowledge and understanding of sustainable landscaping makes her a natural leader for it at EYP. ”

As Senior Designer and Landscape Architect at EYP, Jessica Petro will lead the team to align the built and natural environment, so that systems can inform and respond to each client’s agenda and mission. In addition, it will leverage the expertise of EYP’s internal interdisciplinary teams and environmental data to better inform decisions regarding site feasibility, traffic and natural resources.
