Completed at a cost of AED 205 million ($ 56 million), these projects cover an area of over 2 million m² and include the extension of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road, Expo Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street towards Expo 2020 Dubai Site.
Over 20,000 trees have been used to form a green belt along roads in the region, and over four million seedlings have been planted around roads leading to the site. About two million seedlings were also planted at the site of the mega event.
Director General Dawoud Al Hajri said, “Dubai Municipality uses advanced technology and vertical farming method to implement its landscaping projects across the city. Our plan is to expand our green campaign to cover all areas of Dubai, including open spaces, roads and public parks. “
“By expanding green spaces, we can ensure the sustainability of the horticultural sector, improve air quality and strengthen the mental and physical health of the community,” he noted.
The Dubai Municipality’s landscaping project also covered key landmarks near the Expo 2020 Dubai site, including the entrance to the Dubai Parks, with a total area of 177,123 square meters.
The steel landscaping works cover an area of approximately 109,000 m². In addition, the main irrigation lines were extended by 10.3 km and the sub-lines by 60.1 km. A pumping station with a concrete reservoir for irrigation water was also built worth around AED40million, the senior official said.
Al Hajri highlighted the efforts of the Municipality of Dubai to improve the aesthetic appearance and beauty of the area leading up to the Expo 2020 site in Dubai, implementing best practices in a manner that lives up to the status of the mega international event.
“As part of the project, the Municipality extended 58 km of the main irrigation lines and 234 km of the branch lines. Three main pumping stations and three concrete tanks were also set up to store irrigation water.
